While most of us are fairly familiar with the Celtic music of the Scots and Irish, the music of Galicia has received far less exposure. This northern section of Spain has a significant Celtic heritage, and Carlos Nuñez is certainly one of its most conspicuous champions. He’s a virtuoso piper and flute player, and is on tour in the USA as I write this, promoting his new 2 CD set “Discover” (which truly has an all star cast) and you can get the tour schedule here. http://www.carlos-nunez.com/lang-pref/en/
I caught him at the Instituto Cervantes where he gave a lecture and a brief concert with his trio. My post starts with that performance and ends with an engaging interview, so keep watching past the music!

For an overview of the CD and Mr Nunez’s illustrious career, see Tom Pryor’s excellent article here: http://worldmusic.nationalgeographic.com/view/page.basic/article/content.article/carlos_nunez_new_album/en_US

Here’s where you’ll find my weekly original world music video blogs that appear on Huffington Post, as well as an archive starting in April of 2009.

This is also the place where you will find video that is exclusive to my site. I’ve traveled to places like Uzbekistan, Morocco, and Taiwan and no matter where I go I have found amazingly talented and creative people working in every genre from the deepest traditions to the cutting edge.

It’s been incredibly rewarding to interview them and to capture some of what they do on video. Enjoy what you see and hear, and let me know what you think. I welcome your feedback.
