Mazurkas of the Word Festival Finale: A Polonaise at the Fortress from Michal Shapiro on Vimeo.

The last concert night at the festival had a wonderful finale: those who had played that night assembled off stage and the audience got up and spontaneously danced a Polonaise. It was a big crowd, so the musicians kept playing as long as folks kept dancing. Being in the thick of it was incredible. Yes, there were a few missed notes, and yes it was not a perfect performance…but that paled in comparison to the sheer elan of it all.

This is such a delightful piece of music that since I first saw your posting I can’t get it out of my head. And I don’t mind at all!!!
Thank you for reminding us that life has this tender side to it and not everything is about commercial consumerism. You are an amazing beacon in a dark time. Your blogs should be required viewing for every music student in America. Great and unique stuff. Thank you!

Here’s where you’ll find my weekly original world music video blogs that appear on Huffington Post, as well as an archive starting in April of 2009.

This is also the place where you will find video that is exclusive to my site. I’ve traveled to places like Uzbekistan, Morocco, and Taiwan and no matter where I go I have found amazingly talented and creative people working in every genre from the deepest traditions to the cutting edge.

It’s been incredibly rewarding to interview them and to capture some of what they do on video. Enjoy what you see and hear, and let me know what you think. I welcome your feedback.
