The Lads in Their Hundreds from Michal Shapiro on Vimeo.

This performance, which took place at the Bury Castle Armoury was a co-presentation of the English Folk Expo and the “Homegrown” Series, a project of The Met arts center. It seemed a particularly appropriate setting for a song about the many young men who trained and were sent off to the battlefields and trenches of World War 1 and never returned. The anthemic song is a setting of words by A.E. Housman, with music by Steven Knightley. It is part of 2 CD release called “Centenary” commemorating the heroes and victims of the Great War, with the voices of Downton Abbey’s Jim Carter, and Actress Imelda Staunton.

Welcome!

Here’s where you’ll find my weekly original world music video blogs that appear on Huffington Post, as well as an archive starting in April of 2009.

This is also the place where you will find video that is exclusive to my site. I’ve traveled to places like Uzbekistan, Morocco, and Taiwan and no matter where I go I have found amazingly talented and creative people working in every genre from the deepest traditions to the cutting edge.

It’s been incredibly rewarding to interview them and to capture some of what they do on video. Enjoy what you see and hear, and let me know what you think. I welcome your feedback.
